Hello, my name is Mark Corsillo and I am excited to be a candidate for the Mansfield Select Board.
I have lived in Mansfield for six years now, and have been actively involved in various civic engagements. My experience includes serving on the Planning Board and the Waste Reduction and Recycling Committee, where I have worked with fellow community members to address important issues such as land use and environmental conservation. I’ve also been an avid attendee and participant at countless Select Board meetings. In addition, I have worked closely with the Town Clerk since 2020 to help ensure the smooth running of elections and Town Meetings. These experiences have given me a unique insight into the operations of our local government and allowed me to build relationships with many of the people responsible for keeping our town running, and I’ve also seen firsthand the positive impact that community involvement and engagement can have on our town.
My top priority will be to ensure open, transparent communication from the town and its representatives. We need to continue to bring meaningful, important updates and information to residents through the channels that make the most sense, and meet residents where they are.
Another top priority of mine as a member of the Select Board will be to execute on our Master Plan. We need to continue to attract new businesses to town, especially our downtown area and industrial park, to ensure our town’s long-term economic sustainability. We need to start planning for the inevitable construction needs for our school facilities so that Mansfield’s schools can continue to shine. We also need to update our zoning to meet the state’s MBTA Community zoning requirements, and encourage responsible development to ensure we don’t lose Mansfield’s character.
My background in information technology has given me valuable skills and experience that I believe will be beneficial in serving on the Select Board. My professional experience has taught me how to approach complex problems with a logical and analytical mindset, and has given me the ability to communicate technical or complex information in a way that is easy for everyone to understand.
As an IT professional, I understand the importance of keeping up with the latest developments in the tech landscape and how they can be applied to the environments in which I work. Municipalities face unique challenges when it comes to implementing and managing IT solutions, and it is important to have someone with experience in this area on the Select Board.
One of the biggest challenges facing municipalities today is cybersecurity. Municipalities are a prime target for cybercriminals, and recent high-profile attacks on municipal systems have demonstrated the need for strong security measures. As the only candidate for the Select Board with experience in IT security, I am well-positioned to help ensure that the town’s critical systems, data, and investments are protected against cyber threats, and that we are spending taxpayers’ money on the right solutions. One of the new expenditures listed in the draft Fiscal Year 2024 budget is $128,000 for cyber security insurance; we need someone in the upper levels of town government who has the technical knowledge to keep our vendors accountable and make sure we’re getting the most for our money.
Another challenge facing municipalities is the need to modernize their IT infrastructure. Many towns and cities are still using legacy systems that are no longer supported or secure, which can lead to inefficiencies and vulnerabilities. I have experience in managing large-scale IT projects, and I can help ensure that any IT modernization efforts are executed smoothly and with minimal disruption to town operations.
Furthermore, the rise of cloud computing and mobile technology has created new opportunities for municipalities to streamline their operations and provide better services to residents. For example, cloud-based solutions can allow town employees to access data and applications from anywhere, while mobile apps can enable residents to report issues and communicate with town officials more easily. I have experience with these technologies and can help identify and implement solutions that will benefit the town.
I am passionate about making Mansfield an even better place to live, work, and raise a family. As a Select Board member, I will work tirelessly to ensure that our town continues to thrive, while also addressing the concerns and needs of all members of our community. I believe in transparency, accountability, and collaboration, and I am committed to working with all members of the Board, as well as residents, businesses, and community organizations, to achieve our shared goals.
I am honored to have the opportunity to run for the Select Board and am grateful for your consideration. I look forward to meeting with as many of you as possible over the coming weeks and months, and to hearing your thoughts and ideas on how we can continue to make Mansfield the best it can be. Thank you for your time and support, and please remember to vote on or before May 9.
